History 483: History of the United States to 1877 (Honors) |
- Synopsis: This course will examine the historical development of American society and culture through Reconstruction to 1877. Reading materials and videos will introduce students to the origins and consequences of the major historical events and forces (economic, social, cultural and political) that helped shape life in modern America. Above all, we will examine the various ways that Americans understood the meaning of FREEDOM and how conflicts over the meaning of freedom emerged from and contributed to the complex forces of historical change in the United States.
